Plinth Technologies, Inc. (“Plinth,” “we,” “us”) provides software that helps home-services contractors (“Contractors”) respond to, book, bill, and follow up with their customers (“Homeowners”). This policy explains what we collect, how we use and share it, and your choices. Questions: privacy@joinplinth.com.
This policy covers two audiences:
- Contractors — our direct customers, who hold accounts.
- Homeowners— the Contractors’ customers, whose information flows through Plinth when they contact a Contractor that uses our Service.
Roles. For most Homeowner information, the Contractor is the controller of that data and Plinth acts as a service provider/processoron the Contractor’s behalf, under our Terms of Service. We act as a controller for Contractor account data, billing, and security. Where the Contractor is the controller, Homeowners may also contact that Contractor directly about their data.
1. Information we collect
From Contractors (account data): name, email, phone, business name, service area, branding (logo, colors), receptionist settings, and authentication credentials. If you connect Stripe, Google Business Profile, or Google Calendar, we store the access tokens needed to operate those integrations. We store your negotiated plan and fee terms.
From or about Homeowners (customer data), provided to us by Homeowners or created in the course of the Service: name, phone number, email, property address or ZIP, the details of the inquiry (problem description, timeframe, photos uploaded), the content of SMS conversations (including messages our AI assistant exchanges with the Homeowner and any messages a Contractor sends), appointment details, quote and payment records, and review activity. We do not store full payment card numbers — card payments are processed by Stripe.
Automatically: device and usage information, log data, and analytics events about how the Service is used. Cookies/local storage are used for authentication and product functionality.
2. How we use information
- Provide the Service:respond to and qualify leads, hold SMS conversations, book inspections, issue quotes, present financing estimates, collect payments, request reviews, and send follow-ups — on the Contractor’s behalf.
- AI processing:Homeowner and Contractor messages — and, on a phone call, the spoken conversation — are processed by AI services to draft replies, website copy, and suggested answers. See “AI assistant” below for who those providers are and what each one does.
- Quality, support, and safety: authorized Plinth personnel may access account data and the content of conversations to operate, debug, support, audit, secure, and improve the Service, and to investigate misuse or safety issues. Such access is logged.
- Communications: sign-in emails, service and transactional notices, and (for Contractors) account-related messages.
- Improve the Service: analyze usage to improve features and reliability.
- Legal & security: comply with law, enforce our terms, and protect users.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use Homeowner message content to train third-party AI models.
3. AI assistant
Plinth uses Anthropic’s Claude (via API) to generate message replies and other text. The AI is instructed to use only the facts a Contractor provides and not to invent details, but AI-generated messages may contain errorsand should not be relied on as professional, legal, or financial advice. Per Anthropic’s API terms, data we submit is not used to train their models.
Voice calls. When a Contractor uses the AI voice receptionist, calls to their Plinth number are handled by Vapi, which converts speech to text, speaks the reply, and produces a transcript of the call. That transcript is stored with the conversation so the Contractor can read what was said. Per Vapi’s terms, data we submit is not used to train their models.
AI memory. A Contractor may have AI memoryenabled, which lets the assistant recall that Contractor’s own past conversations so a returning Homeowner doesn’t have to repeat themselves. To do this we send conversation text to OpenAI to be turned into embeddings(numeric representations used for lookup); OpenAI is not used to write replies. Obvious direct identifiers (email addresses, phone numbers, street addresses) are stripped before text is sent for embedding. Per OpenAI’s API terms, data we submit is not used to train their models. This feature is off unless a Contractor has it turned on, and recall never crosses between Contractors — a Contractor’s assistant can only ever recall that same Contractor’s conversations.
4. SMS / text messaging
When a Homeowner provides their number and consents (or texts a Contractor’s Plinth number first), Plinth sends automated and one-to-one texts on the Contractor’s behalf — instant responses, an AI receptionist, appointment confirmations and reminders, payment requests and reminders, review requests, and re-engagement follow-ups. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Mobile information and messaging consent are not shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. A Homeowner’s phone number is used only to deliver the texts described above — sent by the Contractor (through Plinth) about your inquiry — and is never sold. See our Messaging Terms.
5. How we share information
- With the Contractor:a Homeowner’s inquiry and conversation are shared with the Contractor they contacted (that’s the point of the Service).
- Service providers (subprocessors): we share data as needed with the providers that run the platform: Supabase (database, auth, file storage), Vercel (hosting), Twilio (SMS and phone numbers), Vapi (the AI voice receptionist — speech recognition, speech synthesis, and call transcripts, when a Contractor uses voice), Anthropic (the AI that writes replies), OpenAI (text embeddings for AI memory, when a Contractor has that feature enabled), Stripe (payments), a third-party financing provider (when offered), Google (Business Profile + Calendar, when a Contractor connects them), and Resend (email). They may use the data only to provide services to us.
- Legal & safety: when required by law or to protect rights and safety.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
6. Data retention
We retain information for as long as needed to provide the Service and for legitimate business, legal, tax, and security purposes. Conversation and lead records are retained for the life of the Contractor’s account unless deletion is requested and permitted by law. Retention continues after a Contractor’s account terminates for those same purposes — including records needed to compute fees on jobs within the post-termination attribution window, financial and tax records, consent and opt-out records (e.g., TCPA compliance), dispute resolution, and improving the Service. Deletion requests (Section 8) are honored after termination on the same terms as before it, subject to those lawful retention needs.
7. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit, authenticated access, and tenant isolation between Contractor accounts. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
8. Your choices and rights
- Homeowners: to access, correct, or delete information tied to your inquiry, contact the Contractor you reached out to, or contact us at privacy@joinplinth.com and we will route the request appropriately. You can stop texts anytime by replying STOP.
- Contractors: manage your profile in Settings, or contact us to access or delete account data.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (e.g., under the CCPA/CPRA or other state laws) to know, delete, correct, and opt out.
9. Children
The Service is not directed to, and is not intended for use by, anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
10. Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
